The 63-year-old grandaughter of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini won Italy’s version of the reality TV competition show “Celebrity Big Brother.”
Alessandra Mussolini took home $116,000 for defeating 15 contestants on her way to victory on “Grande Fratello VIP.”
“I enjoyed everything to the fullest, just as I am,” she reportedly said when her win was announced. “I regret nothing.”
Half of Mussolini’s winnings will be donated to charity, according to Mediaite.com.
The political scion announced in March that she would compete on the reality program spinoff that began in the Netherlands in 1999. Numerous variations of the program have since spread to numerous other countries including the U.S. and Italy.
Much like the U.S. version, “Grande Fratello VIP” invites contestants who’ve achieved some level of fame to cohabitate under 24-surveillance until only one occupant remains in the house.
Prior to becoming a reality TV winner, Mussolini enjoyed moderate success as a pop singer and a television personality. She also appeared in several films including 1977’s “A Special Day” starring her aunt, Sophia Loren.
Her infamous uncle became Italy’s prime minister in 1922. He aggressively steered the country toward fascism before leading it to war in alliance with Nazi Germany and declaring war on Britain and France in 1940. The disgraced strongman was executed in 1945. “Il Duce’s” body was dragged through the streets and hanged upside down outside a gas station.
His granddaughter’s politics have also been described as right-wing and nationalist. She served in the Italian and European parliament.
